Communism vs Capitalism

In most parts of the world communism is seen as something that has brought nothing but the downfall of societies. If almost no society has had great benefit from following this socialist structure why is it still seen in some areas in the world and how did it take hold of countries like Russia in the past. If Capitalism is so much better why are there so many people that complain about it. Why is capitalism considered completely unbalanced and people want to get rid of it.

In Capitalism people go to school to get a job, they work harder (or get lucky) to make more money. The base idea is that every person is responsible for himself, you build yourself up in work to have more money for yourself. Obviously there are variations of capitalism and people would argue about things like health care and social security but that's another topic. The problem people have is that some people are born in to rich families and seem to have an easy time stay wealthy while other are not, they don't get the same education and can not make as much money. While in the US we try to prevent this it is not possible to get rid of this problem completely.

Communism was created to try to fix this problem, the reason it was so popular in some areas is because it sounds like a really good idea. It is mostly popular in societies where the rich are very separated from the poor, also known as the working class. The working class wanted the society to be equal and in Communism each person does the job they are best at and gains the same amount of money as everyone else. Everything is done for the best of the society no person is above another.

The problem with Communism is that people to not want to do things that have no benefit for them, people need some sort of motivation. In Communism one person may have to study for years and become a Doctor but he will make the exact same amount as a person cutting trees down. The other problem is that there is supposed to be no government, the society is supposed to run it self. If no person has control then there is no one to say if a person steps above another.

The benefits of Capitalism is that it creates motivation for people to build themselves up, to work harder. The downside is that for some people it may be hard for them to rise to the top and you will see a greater devide in the classes of wealth. In Communism the benefits are that every person is supposed to be equal and the society should run smoother. The problems are people are unlikely to follow this, every person would have no motivation to work hard. In this society economic growth would either not move or show very little growth and more of a steady decline as one problem leads to another with no set power to resolve it.

monopolies

When you mention the word the first thing most people will think about is the board game. If they think about a business then they will probably have an opinion to share. Businesses that have become monopolies have been known for being hounded by the government and being taxed to such a great extent that they cant grow. Another opinion might be that they try to control the market and destroy small businesses.

The most common examples would be some natural monopolies, such as electricity companies, water companies and so on. As for businesses that are monopolies you wont find many because the US breaks up any company that becomes a full monopoly. One I think has slipped under the law however would be blue ray, they effectively saw to the fall of HD and now have no competion. They are not considered a monopoly because DVD still exists even though DVD is not truly considered a competing format. They now however control the entire current market for next gen media formats.

Natural monopolies however are the only companies that are allowed to run without the risk of being split up. The reason for this is because they would fail if they had to work in competition. The government however sets laws to how much these companies can charge and how large they can expand. Most people would probably not think the government is doing a good job, even though the companies loose a very large amount of profit to taxes, the prices the charge are still fairly high because they are often allowed to add extra fees.

In many ways monopolies have hurt markets, they raise the prices as high as they can, they don't allow smaller businesses to start up. They tend to loose quality as they have no one to compete with. One the other hand they some times help the market by becoming very large and bringing money to a small market. The can increase employment and through taxes bring money to the state (how that's used is another story).

For the most part its all personal opinion. While there are many monopolies that we require to run our societies there are many ways in witch they hurt markets by controlling them. That is why you find very few monopolies except for the ones vitally needed.

Business Project part 1

Proposed Business: A Paintball Field, Paintball Equipment Rental Stone, and Snack Bar. The idea behind this business is to give Paintball players a beautifully designed Paintball Field right here in the High Desert. With the ever increasing popularity of the sport, the investment in the field will be well made. Players are always looking for the newest course design, that’s why we give the players what they want. Being actually players of the game gives us an advantage, we know what the player wants.
The Main Field will consist of 5 acres of land, right along the I-15 Freeway, this allows us to coax in players who are traveling to Las Vegas for the weekend, and also puts it in an easy to reach spot for the entire desert. 2 smaller fields between 2-3 acres will also be utilized to host Capture the Flag and other various games. Finally, another 2 very small fields will be used to host a Speed Ball and X-Ball field, all very popular games among the Paintball community.
The loan from the bank (with the boards kind approval), will be used to purchase the following items:

15-20 Acres of desert land, 10 of which are already owned by us.
Maintenance Equipment
Buildings and Facades
Insurance
Advertising

These are the expected costs thus far. One such site that can be used to see other businesses in action is http://www.pbreview.com/fields/ . Paintball is a rising sport, and it will only continue to get bigger. We would love to have the banks support in this project, we know you can see the opportunity just as well as we can.

Essay 4

The Lumber company could spray the chemical to make trees grow faster but testing has shown a chance to cause cancer. What is the trade off, instead of lumber price going down, a number of jobs opening up, and a smaller need to cut as many trees since they grow back so fast, we now have a chance that we are being protected. We are trading many benefits without being given the choice.

I think the best solution would be to allow them to apply the chemical under certain conditions. The first condition would be that they would have to make sure that they are not using it in large concentrated amounts as that was when it was seen as dangerous. The second condition would be that they would have to make sure it was a safe distance away from any large housing groups.

The lumber firms would obviously be greatly benefited if able to use the chemical, they will be able to lower thier price to increase demand. Thier supply will greatly increase allowing them to cut back on some land if needed. They will also be able to export farther, allowing them to reach other markets.

The custumers would be benefited by a lower price for wood. The market for wood would increase opening new jobs in a number of areas. The economy would probably have an increase and as long as the chemical remains used in only the US it would give us something we could easily trade in large amounts.

The only people who might have a reason to be against it are the people who live near by. The people who live close by acording to the test may develope cancer, I would say they should make a deal that if the lumber companies use this near thier house they must buy AC purifiers for the houses, they dont cost much. The other people would only be those that work with the chemical but they know the risk, will be wearing protection and will be making a profit so they cant complain much. I think it would be a good choice to allow the use of the chemical under watch of the crazy enviormental people, they would make sure the lumber company doesnt break any rules.

Bending the Rules?

Would it be ok to paraphrase an auther without giving him credit in order to get a good grade. Even though the generic responce to this would be something simple like, cheating is bad. When a person really thinks about the question the answer becomes harder to see. A person first probably begins to think of all the factors that could play in to it, what if you really agree with the author but your teacher wanted you to come up with it on your own. You also think of the fact that doing this could mean getting int to your dream college and effecting your future.

First we can look at what would be morally correct. I doubt many people would say cheating is the right thing to do. The problem is most people would prefer to think of it as the ends justifies the means. We seem to twist it more and more in our minds thinking of how its not that bad for us to steal another persons words.

Personaly the thing that would probably keep me from pagerizing the most would be the fear of getting caught. I know that sounds bad but that is why we have fear, to keep us from doing stupid things. It is good to take in to account that getting caught could have far worse effects than getting a slighly lower grade from not cheating.

I would like to say that I would definately not cheat but I cant, I know id think about it a lot, and id like to hope that I would do the right thing. Choices like these are very hard for many people, the right thing to do is not lwaysthe easy thing to do. Just saying you should always do the right thing isnt very helpful, the best thing i can say is think of the consequences and the fear you will deal with wondering if someone will catch it.

Customer Service

What companies serve their customers best? The answer can be subjective, depending on what each customer expects to receive but there are still statistics that can tell us what companies are successful. There are also basic things people want and do not want in a company such as people don't want to go to a company where people are unfriendly.

The first Company I would say gives a good example of customer service would be Starbucks. They have created an atmosphere that people know, and an image people want to be a part of. Many people go to Starbucks just to get something to drink and work on their computer, something they could do from home. Starbucks is also good about making sure their employees seem energetic, (maybe its the coffee) its adds the the inviting feeling and keeps thousands of people going to thousands of locations around the world.

Second I would say Dell, even more with their XPS line support. The keep track of every part of your computer and tell you if any driver updates come out for it, something many computer users find very useful. They have phone support, email support, and instant messaging support, so you can always find a convenient way to get help. They also realize that they can not always deal with the many problems that come with altering your computer so they allow customers to ask each other questions about problems they have over their forums. If you need a replacement you can usually get it from them within three days. These are some of the reasons why they are considered by many number one in computer technical support.

Last I would say Blizzard, the makers of games such as Starcraft, or World of Warcraft. Even though many people like to complain about Blizzard the fact is they have over 10,000,000 people paying about $14.00 a month to play their game. One way they are able to better server their customers is by creating forums, they have a large group of people paid to read the forums and report back what people seem to want. They come out with constant updates adding content and trying to make the game fit the play styles of anyone that plays it. They don't push their growth they just let it grow by it self mostly spreading by word of mouth rather than advertising.

It seems to me that some of the best companies simply listen to what people want and apply it to their product. There are still of course many other companies that that are very successful even with many of their customers complaining, but for the most part without to some extent of customer service a company will fail. How they deliver that service is completely up to them.

All life is Economics

"Economics is, the science which studies human behaviour as a relationship between ends and scarce means which have alternative uses. Lionel Robbins" Almost everything in life deals with economics in some way. Every time you buy something, give or receive money, work at a job, you are participating in the cycle of economics. Every time you make a choice to get something over something else you are giving up something to receive something, also, because there is a limited amount to everything in our world scarcity will always exist, these are both other issues economics deals with.

While planning for my own future i have had to look at many factors that are controlled by economics to help me choose a path that will most likely help me succeed. While looking at my major I had to look for something that I would be good at but also something that is needed, that is why i Decided to go in to computer science and engineering. With our world constantly trying to jump forward in our progress in technology it is a field that is in constant need of more people. This is an important thing to look at, if you are planning on going in to a field that in not a great amount of need you will probably have a hard time finding a job.

I also had to look at if I am not very successful in finding a career with my major, that's why it is good to pick a minor, that way you are not "putting all your eggs in one basket." The career i am looking in to for my minor is safety, at the moment almost any company is looking for someone that can fulfill this position because it is such an overlooked field. Second with all the eviormentalist movements companies constantly need people with training to check their machines to make sure they cannot be sued. When planning something you must realize that the economy can always change so it is a good idea to have a second course for you to fall back on.

My plans for the future are mostly centered around a crucial part of economics, supply and demand. This controls a huge portion of our world, if something is in great demand and is in low supply, its price will raise, at the same time if something is in low demand and great supply then its price will have to drop. You want to be in an area that demand is going to go up in and you want to get out of something that you can see demand dropping in.

Seeing that economics plays such a crucial role in everything we choose and how it can change so quickly we would want something that would guide the choices we should make. This is where models come in, people make models to use the past to help them see where the economic market might be going, but since these can not passably include everything they can not be completely trusted and most of the time you are taking a chance. This is why the quote "All life is Economics is so true," everything we do and choose plays a role and the choices we make can greatly effect our lives, we can never escape economics.
